Want to be really self indulgent, wallowing in your favorite games and have all your favorite things handy? Want to be comfortable for once, not navigating a sort of obstacle course of very necessary things which always see to get in the way? Want an LCD TV as a partner in your personal gamer’s heaven? It’s all possible, and better still, it’s comparatively cheap, even when you’re not trying to be cheap.

The inventory for a great gaming room

Whatever your game tastes, there are a few basic needs:

The snack bar: Eating is potentially distracting, particularly when you have to trudge out into the world and try to avoid starvation. Ordering takeout covers the problem to some extent, but after a few years the pizza boxes become a threat. Some even develop their own ecologies and new forms of life. Get your own bar fridge, some are quite big, and install. Check out all your favorite snacks, include some actual food, (think of it as a “heal” function) and wallow in excess.

Hot food: There’s nothing like hot food and gaming, even if it does involve a sort of trail of reminders from the cooking source to the game. Include something like a toaster oven or a microwave for easy hot food. These things should be well away from the precious games, and have anything which can reduce the drip factor.

***Important: Make sure you’ve got somewhere to dump garbage. A big strong container, about the size of an office garbage bin, which can be properly sealed from smells, will do the job.

The storage zone: The logistics of gaming include accumulation of huge numbers of things which become unfindable almost instantly. A basic storage locker will not only make them findable, you may also be able to see parts of the room you haven’t seen for ages. The risk is that the room will look tidy, but it’s a small price to pay for having navigable areas available.

The gaming zone: Gamers often play multiple types of game requiring different things like video games, screens, etc. The idea is to have all these things in the gaming room where they’re easily accessible and that annoying thing called the human race can’t interrupt. Hence the need for some planning.

Put your games equipment in places where you can afford a little extra space. Try to avoid having different types of equipment too close to each other, particularly if you’ve got Wi-Fi games which can get scrambled by things like microwaves, etc. Be very careful of any LCD TVs in this context.

Carpet: An industrial strength carpet, preferably a broad-minded, as well as a broadloom or modular carpet, is worth the money. The modern carpets are un-killable, and they’re no longer toxic to all forms of life on Earth, even gamers.

Sound insulation: This is a good idea for peace with the neighbors, partners, parents, and people in other countries or on other planets. Simple sound insulation is easy to find, and your local music shop will know who does that in your area.
