Why I Love PRS SE Guitars
PRS have been making guitars for a long time, however it has only been for the last two decades or so that the guitar manufacturer has really started to come into its own. In the mid nineties the PRS SE line of guitars was introduced – these were intended to open up PRS brand guitars to a new student/beginner market.

Previously PRS only sold high end guitars that were solely aimed at professional musicians and collectors. The PRS SE were manufactured in Korea to cut down on production costs so as to provide a line of budget instruments.
Despite being the manufacturer’s entry level line instruments, PRS SE instruments are not cheap guitars, and are generally compared to the standard ranges of other brands because they have such great build quality. PRS SE guitars use cheaper tone-woods than their higher end cousins, which although does slightly knock the quality of the tone produced, still makes the instrument sound great.
Part of the reason PRS SE guitars are considered to be superior to most other entry level instruments is because they use set-net construction to attach the necks to the body of the instrument – a construction technique which is generally used on higher end models. Many entry level guitars simply have bolt on necks to save money.
PRS SE Custom guitars are about as close to the real thing as any SE instrument can get, they use maple tops, flamed maple veneers and mahogany backs to reproduce the look and feel of higher end models. The effect on people is quite incredible, usually when musicians see a guitar of similar characteristics they expect it to have a huge price tag, but a PRS SE Custom can easily be picked up for £400! The PRS treble and bass humbuckers included in all SE models are great performers; they are specifically tailored to produce beautiful, sharp treble sounds and loud, pronounced bass sounds.
